'The Young and the Restless" viewers are patiently waiting for Adam Newman (Justin Hartley) to return to the CBS daytime drama. Adam's presence on the soap opera is missed, and many fans cannot wait to see how they plan to bring him back.

Justin returns?

Hartley spoke to Soap Opera Digest and revealed that he was open to returning to "The Young and the Restless" and missed working with his co-stars.

He has worked with them for over two years and felt a connection with them. His work on "This Is Us" has been amazing, and we don't see him walking away from that gig anytime soon. So, where does that leave Adam Newman on "The Young and the Restless"?

Could Hartley do both?

Of course, Justin could do both shows---tape "Y&R" during off times with his prime time show. Or, he could tell CBS he can't do both, forcing them to recast the role.

Harley prepared the fans for the worst---Adam Newman may stay off canvas for a year or more. He refuses to state that he plans to return. It has given the fans some anxiety as they are dying to know what Adam's future may hold. After all, Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) needs her man, right?

A recast option?

For quite a while, social media has been buzzing that Michael Muhney would assume the role of Adam again during February sweeps roll out.

He has since denied returning to the soap opera which left the fans stumped and anxious about Adam's return to Genoa City. Adam is a role that takes a special type of actor, and according to the rumor mill, the casting director has had a hard time finding the right actor. It has left "The Young and the Restless" in a tight spot, and they aren't sure what to do. If Justin cannot fit in time to return, we may never see Adam Newman again.

Let's just hope that "This Is Us" will give him some time off so he can assume the role of Adam Newman---even if it only one episode to show us that he's alive, well, and waiting for his chance to seek revenge against his diabolical father.

"The Young and the Restless" fans, do you think Justin Hartley will return to the CBS soap opera to reprise the role of Adam Newman?
