"The Voice" 2016 resumes tonight on NBC asthe final six contestants battle it out for spots in the Knockouts, which begin next Monday and will determine the identities of the aspiring singers who will advance to the live shows under the tutelage of superstar coaches Blake Shelton, Miley Cyrus, Adam Levine, and Alicia Keys. So which talented hopefuls will go head to head for survival, and which former show coach will take Miley Cyrus' place on the panel when season 12 premieres next spring?

The final 'The Voice' 2016 battles

According to Oct. 18 updates to the iTunes store, Team Alicia Keys' final battle will be a stand-off between Gabriel Violett and duo Whitney & Shannon as they perform "More Than Words" by Extreme.

In Maroon5 frontman Adam Levine's corner of the competition, Bindi Liebowitz and Brendan Fletcher will seek continued competition life as they sing "Home," while Team Blake Shelton's final battle will see Austin Allsup and Preston James face-off via the Creedence Clearwater Revival hit "Bad Moon Rising."

Although just three of the hopefuls can win their respective "The Voice" 2016 battles, one loser will gain extended competition life as Shelton still has a steal to use. To see how the battles pan out and to find out who advances to the next round of the competition, tune in to tonight's broadcast.

Miley Cyrus out, Gwen Stefani in for season 12

When "The Voice" season 12 premieres in the spring of 2017, Gwen Stefani will rejoin the cast of mentors, which is also slated to feature Adam Levine, Alicia Keys, and country star Blake Shelton.

Although she'll be out for season 12, Cyrus is scheduled to make her return to the coaching staff for season 13, which will premiere next fall. Stefani last appeared as a coach on "The Voice" during the fall of 2015, when she mentored Jeffery Austin to a fourth place finish behind winner Jordan Smith.

Other celebrity ladies who have served as "The Voice" coaches during past seasons have included Christina Aguilera and Shakira.
