“The Flash”’s Barry Allen occasionally needs a mentor of the speedster persuasion, and Jay Garrick is ready to fill that role. Despite Hunter Zolomon’s (Teddy Sears) posturing, the real Jay Garrick (John Wesley Shipp) made his debut in the season 2 finale. A dead ringer for Barry’s (Grant Gustin) father, the appearance of the Crimson Comet was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. Emotionally devastated, The Flash went into a tailspin, ultimately creating a new timeline in an effort to rectify Flashpoint.

Just as Barry was about to travel back in time once more, Jay hopped over from Earth-3. The pair collided in the speedforce, and Shipp’s character took the time to give the young speedster a valuable lesson – he can never put the timeline to rights. Luckily for Barry, Jay’s turn as his mentor is far from over.

When Will Jay Return To 'The Flash'?

“You know, every now and then the kid’s got to be sat down and talked to,” Shipp joked while speaking with TV Insider. “We will see him again. I am cleared to say that we will see Jay sprinkled through the season when he is needed.” After all, Jay has a vested interest in making sure the STAR Labs team doesn’t throw a wrench in the speedforce.

Did Jay Ever Return To Earth-3?

There’s one question Jay’s “Paradox” appearance failed to answer, and it is a query that writers won’t quickly forget. We know Garrick made it as far as Earth-2 with Harry (Tom Cavanagh) and Jesse (Violett Beane), but did he ever actually make it home?

“Well, I don’t really want to say too much about that,” the actor teased. “We certainly will find out very shortly whether he made it back, and if he did, what’s going on.”

After over a year without its resident speedster, Earth-3’s Central City is undoubtedly in need of dire help.

Once the Flash is out of the picture, rogues tend to crawl out of the woodwork. The CW has yet to announce Jay’s next appearance.
