It’s a brave new world for “Supernatural”’s Mary Winchester. The hunting game has changed considerably in the last three decades, but Sam and Dean’s mom isn’t going to let that stand in her way.

Mary (Samantha Smith) never wanted her sons to become hunters. She ran from the life when she married John, but, as Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) have learned time and time again, you can’t escape the family business. Although offing a Woman of Letters was certainly a shock to Mary’s system in the premiere, Mama Winchester will hop back in the saddle before you know it.

“[Mary] will be hunting, I will be fighting and participating,” Smith told TV Addict at San Diego Comic-Con.

“And that is not something that my version of Mary has done so far.”

How will Sam & Dean react?

"Supernatural"'s Sam and Dean, however, won’t be keen on bringing their mother into the field. The boys suffered the trauma of her loss once already, and, now that she’s back, her sons won’t want to run the risk of losing her again.

“The vulnerability of having his mother now is going to be tricky to navigate because essentially it’s another way to force Dean or Sam to do something,” Ackles explained. “Usually Dean only had to worry about his brother, but now he’s really going to have to worry about his mother and his brother.”

A 'Supernatural' fight is brewing?

The brothers’ concerns will come to a head in episode 4. After extracting Sam from the clutches of the British Men of Letters during “Mamma Mia” and dealing with a deadly infant in “The Foundry,” it appears Mary will opt to continue ganking monsters in “American Nightmare.”

“Sam and Dean investigate a case that leads them to a devout religious family that lives off the grid,” The CW teased.
