Edward Herrmann who played the character died in 2014. The TV series will deal with this sad death, and the story will start 8 years after the series finale, and a few weeks after Richard's death. The show will include almost every beloved characters from the original run: beside the magic triplet, Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel and Kelly Bishop as Lorelai, Rory and Emily Gilmore, we will welcome back Cookie St. James played by the Academy Award nominee Melissa McCarthy, Sean Gunn as Kirk, Scott Patterson as Luke, "How To Get Away with Murder"'s Liza Weil as the hilarious Paris and many more Stars Hollow's inhabitants.

There will be space also for all the memorable Rory exes: "Supernatural"'s Jared Padalecki, "The Good Wife"'s Matt Czuchry and "This Is Us"' star Milo Ventimiglia will reprise their roles as Dean, Logan and Jess. There will be some new guest-stars from the new Amy Shermann Palladino show and Graham's previous NBC's TV series: "Parenthood" Mae Whitman and "Bunheads" Sutton Foster will play a role in one of the movies.

The new mini-series will deal with Rory's career, Emily's grief and Luke and Lorelai's relationship. All the four movies will be written and directed by Amy and Daniel Shermann-Palladino.
