The search for a new Kelly Ripa co-host continues and it is not clear when a decision will be made. Chaos erupted on the “Live! With Kelly and Michael” set last spring when Michael Strahan revealed that he was leaving the show and Ripa was given virtually no heads-up ahead of the formal announcement. She has flown solo with guests hosts since Strahan's departure and fans are anxious to see if anybody on the supposed short list permanently fills the spot.

Ripa's buddy Anderson Cooper won't be joining 'Live!' permanently

CNN's Anderson Cooper has been at the top of the wish list for some time now, as he co-hosts with Kelly Ripa frequently and is a close friend of hers. According to the Hollywood Reporter, however, he has signed a new long-term deal with CNN and that means that while he will surely still step in to co-host here and there, he won't be Kelly Ripa's co-host on a permanent basis.

Cooper was reportedly Ripa's top pick, and Kelly is said to have wanted Anderson by her side before Strahan was chosen back in 2012 as well.

Alas, the CNN reporter continues to be committed to his serious gig and the “Live!” crew continues to find someone that is a fit for both Kelly and the audience. People has been maintaining a supposed short list of contenders to become Ripa's co-host and Cooper's name indeed was at the top of the list.

Who else is believed to be in the mix of potential co-hosts?

Other apparent contenders include Bravo's Andy Cohen, another close friend of Kelly's, along with frequent guest co-host and former “Wonder Years” star Fred Savage.

People's list includes sports reporter and “Dancing With the Stars” co-host Erin Andrews, but “Live!” fans feel fairly confident that Ripa's next co-host will be male rather than female as has been the show's tradition.

Josh Groban is a definite possibility, but short-lister Seth Meyers seems more unlikely due to the rising success of his late night gig. Jeff Gordon's name is on the list as well, and he is another frequent guest co-host and friend of Ripa's.

However, he has said that his priority is Fox, Fox Sports, and NASCAR. Both Alec Baldwin and Mario Lopez are both on the supposed list, and fans have speculated about Jerry O'Connell being a possibility as well.

Of course, fans always bring up the idea of having Kelly's husband Mark Consuelos step in as a permanent co-host, although the couple has resisted that idea. Kelly's good friend and frequent co-host Neil Patrick Harris is another possibility, but it has sounded as if he is unavailable due to commitments to other projects.

Do you think that the show is close to naming a permanent addition to the show, or will they keep rotating in guest hosts like they've done since Michael Strahan's departure?
