“General Hospital” spoilers tease that there could be an interesting shift with the cast later this year and fans are buzzing over the possibilities on this one. Steve Burton played the role of Jason Morgan from 1991 to 2012, and former “Young and Restless” star Billy Miller stepped into the role in 2014. Burton recently stated that he is leaving the role of Dylan on “Y&R” and this already has people talking about the idea of getting him back to “GH” somehow. Is this really happening?

Steve Burton may be available for a 'GH' return

As SheKnows notes, Billy Miller has made the role of Jason Morgan his own now that he's been playing the character for two years, but it has definitely been a challenge and many “General Hospital” fans still see Steve Burton as the true Jason.

Burton left “GH” after failed contract negotiations and he tackled the role of Dylan MacAvoy for some time. However, the “Y&R” actor recently stated that he has decided to leave that gig come December.

Not only does Burton seem to be free now, but according to Celeb Dirty Laundry, Miller's contract is believed to be on the brink of expiring. Contract negotiations have been quite difficult for numerous cast members this past year over on “General Hospital,” with Tyler Christopher leaving after being able to come to terms with the show and Rebecca Herbst almost leaving. Will the show do what it takes to keep Miller, and does he want to stay?

Could the show keep Miller and still bring back Burton?

Of course, fans have to wonder if “GH” could put together an offer that would satisfy Burton given the contract issues that led to his departure in 2012. Some think the timing is interesting at the very least, that Miller's contract is said to be up within a similar timeframe that Burton becomes available.

At this point, however, rumors that Steve may return to the role of Jason in place of Billy is nothing more than speculation and perhaps some wishful thinking.

Even if Miller is staying, there surely would be a way to bring Burton back if the show so desired. In the land of soap operas, anything is possible, and some would point to the success on “Days of Our Lives” of finding a way to have both Josh Taylor and Drake Hogestyn on the current cast despite the fact they each played Roman Brady at different times.

How could 'General Hospital' pull this off?

Some speculate that if both actors were to be on “General Hospital,” it could somehow turn out that Miller isn't really Jason after all, or Burton could be brought in as someone else as the sudser has done with Michael Easton numerous times. Most “GH” fans certainly would prefer to have Steve Burton back in the role of Jason Morgan if he were to return to the world of Port Charles, but a fair number of viewers would surely take a return from the actor however they could get one.

Do you think that there's a chance that Steve Burton will return to “General Hospital” now that he's leaving “Young and Restless”? Do you prefer his portrayal of Jason Morgan or Billy Miller's?
