Justin Hartley has officially left The Young, and the Restless and the role of Adam Newman, and the character was seemingly killed off in an explosion after a jail escape. Fans suspect, however, that the character could very well turn out to be alive, and there are rumors swirling about who might take over the gig. Could former All My Children hunk Aiden Turner step into the role?

Young and Restless has bid farewell to Justin Hartley

The Young and the Restless fans are not happy about seeing Justin Hartley depart, as he was one Y&R recast who managed to win over many fans. This was no small feat, considering that he took over the role from actor Michael Muhney, who had built a big fan base and his firing riled up viewers in a big way.

However, Hartley made Adam Newman his own and people had come to love the dynamic he had with Melissa Claire Egan's Chelsea.

Adam may have been killed off in an explosion, or so it seems, but this Newman family member has come back from the dead before and fans are already buzzing about the possibility that it will happen again. A large number of people are already buzzing over the idea that Muhney could return, but there have been no substantial signs pointing to that being the case. In addition, many would say that considering all that transpired in his departure; it seems unlikely that Young and Restless would bring him back.

CouldYoung and Restless tap another soap veteran to take over as Adam?

Another possibility that has emerged is actor Aiden Turner, known by many soap fans for his time on All My Children from 2002 to 2009. Where has this rumor come from? Last spring, Celeb Dirty Laundry shared what they termed as an exclusive indicating that Turner had done a screen test on Young and Restless with Melissa, seemingly testing the chemistry with Chelsea.

Now that it is public knowledge that Hartley is leaving Young and Restlessto tackle a new primetime gig with NBC's This Is Us, the buzz about Turner has surfaced again. However, Aiden is currently part of the cast of Tyler Perry's If Loving You Is Wrong on the OWN network and a new season is about to debut.

In addition, the actor himself took to Twitter and in response to a follower's question he said that he honestly had no idea where the Y&R rumor originated.

Adam is off the canvas onYoung and Restless for now

Granted, actors often deny and deflect when they are stepping into a new role like this, but there are no concrete signs indicating that Aiden Turner really is going to take over the gig of playing Adam Newman. At this point, The Young and the Restless is playing out the storyline of the character being dead, and many expect to see Chelsea and Nick grow close in the aftermath of the explosion.

Will The Young and the Restless recast the character and bring back Michael Muhney, bring in Aiden Turner, go with an unknown, or score another soap veteran like Justin Hartley who could generate some excitement?

Fans will have to stay tuned for now and see where things head as this current storyline plays out.
