Ryan Lochte is partnering with Cheryl Burke this fall on Dancing With The Stars and his participation is sure to generate a lot of buzz. This Rio Olympian found himself in the middle of a significant controversy after a drunken evening out during the games and while he is said to have signed on to Season 23 of DWTS before that occurred, many will be curious to see if this stint can rehabilitate his image. What do people need to know about this contestant?

Ryan Lochte found himself in hot water in Rio

As Reality TV World details, Ryan Lochte found himself in hot water after he and some fellow swimmers claimed that they had been robbed at gunpoint in Brazil, but an investigation indicated that they had lied about exactly what went down. He has now been suspended from the sport and lost all of the endorsement deals he had at the time. While Ryan has typically been seen as a bit of a goofy charmer, the Brazil incident left many with a bad taste in their mouths.

Lochte is originally from Rochester, New York, and he has garnered 12 Olympic medals after participating in four different games. He has been at the Athens, Beijing, London, and Rio Olympics and he has won four gold medals, three silvers, and three bronze medals according to his website. He grew up mostly in Florida and attended the University of Florida with a major in sports management.

ThisDWTS contestant has done reality television before

Dancing With the Stars will not be Ryan's first time doing reality television, as he did have his own show on the E! Network back in 2013 called What Would Ryan Lochte Do?, but it was axed after just one season. The swimmer has also said in the past that Bachelor producers had approached him about leading a season, but they have said that's not accurate.

As for Ryan's partner Cheryl Burke, she left the show after Season 19 of Dancing With the Stars to pursue other projects, but she has now returned and she seems to be having a great time so far with Lochte. Burke has won DWTS twice, in Season 2 with Drew Lachey and in Season 3 with Emmitt Smith. In addition, she garnered second place with Rob Kardashian and third with partners Cristian de la Fuente, William Levy, and Jack Osbourne.

The competition will be fierce onDWTS this fall, as Derek Hough is back and partnering with Marilu Henner, and other contestants include buzzworthy celebrities such as Laurie Hernandez, Terra Jole, and James Hinchcliffe.

Will Ryan Lochte and Cheryl Burke manage to dance circles around the others on Season 23 ofDancing With the Stars and scoop up the mirror-ball trophy?
