Fans might remember a particular episode of The Walking Dead, titled “Not Tomorrow Yet,” which featured several zombified heads. One of those heads was reportedly a pretty good likeness of the show’s director, Greg Nicotero, but yet another severed head bore a striking resemblance to Hollywood actor Johnny Depp.

As reported by the International Business Times, it was in episode 12 that the head made its appearance.

That particular episode outlined Rick’s group putting together a plan to help the Hilltop Community, following the threats against them from the Saviors’ leader, Gregory. The reason for the head’s existence was that they wanted to convince the Saviors that their leader was dead, so they went out looking for a walker that looked something like Gregory. After bringing back the three most likely severed heads, they then chose the one that would be most convincing as the “dead” Savior leader.

Norman Reedus wanted those heads so bad

Norman Reedus, who plays the popular Daryl Dixon on TWD, reportedly wanted those zombified heads from the very moment he saw them, but apparently had to wait. Comicbook quotes Nicotero as saying they had sculpted an emaciated looking version of a dummy head for a scene in the show and for fun, used Johnny Depp’s head as basis for the clay sculpt. He recalled how funny it was when they shot that season, where the character known as the Savior put his hand inside that head and does a ventriloquism thing to make it talk.

Nicotero said he laughed so hard at the time. He went on to say that Norman wasted no time putting a claim on those heads, saying he wanted to take them when shooting was finished. Nicotero told him he would have to wait until the picture was logged.

It seems that time has finally arrived, and Reedus headed to his Instagram account to post an image of the Johnny Depp lookalike zombified head, sitting in his dressing room next to his mirror.

He also has a rather strange looking blow up Pink Panther in there, as can be seen from the image.

The seventh season of The Walking Dead returns on Sunday, October 23rd.
