"Saturday Night Live" will be back on the air with new episodes starting on Saturday, October 1. Season 42 of "SNL" promises to be a good one, as election years always make for entertaining skits.

Season premier

The brilliant minds running "Saturday Night Live" know what they are doing. It was well planned ahead of time that the season premier would come out on the Saturday after the first presidential debate. It's no secret that the debate which took place on September 26 would make for some great comedy.

Earlier this week it was announced that actor Alec Baldwin will make a special appearance to play the role of the Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump.

Although he's not hosting this Saturday, Baldwin has hosted "SNL" more times than anyone else. The Democratic presidential nominee,  Hillary Clinton, will be played (or impersonated) by "SNL" regular cast member Kate McKinnon.

The teasers that are out promoting this weekends show have created quite a buzz, with Baldwin getting the Trump look down to a tee, and McKinnon looking like a mirror image of Senator Clinton. Add to that a beautiful host and an outstanding musical guest, and you have quite the show.

Host and music

Speaking of hosts, the "Saturday Night Live" season 42 premier will be hosted by Australian actress Margot Robbie. Robbie most recently starred in last summer's hit movie, "Suicide Squad," playing the role of Harley Quinn.

Currently, the actress is preparing to start work on the new film "Goodbye Christopher Robin."

The musical guest scheduled for Saturday is The Weekend. With many hits under his belt, fans are eagerly anticipating his performance on "SNL." Best known for "Can't Feel My Face," "The Hills" and "In the Night," The Weekend will undoubtably light up the "SNL" stage.

Season 42 of "Saturday Night Live" will premier this Saturday, October 1, on NBC at 11:30 p.m. EST. Returning cast members include Leslie Jones, Beck Bennett, Kyle Mooney, Pete Davidson, Colin Jost, Michael Che and more.
