Everyone knows that Pokémon GO has taken the world by storm. With 500 million downloads in two months, plus this week’s announcement that the Niantic Labs App will be part of the next generation of the Apple Watch, Pokémon is a huge phenomena. In fact, one might even go as far as to say that they are indeed the new wave of celebrity. As fans of yesterday used to chase a Hollywood actor for a photo or an autograph, today’s “Trainers” chase down the elusive Pokémon hoping for a photo and a capture with a Poké Ball. So looking for a “star Pokémon” sighting in Los Angeles? Here are several spots where Pokémon have been known to hang.

Pokémon love art museums

Most Celebrities have creative talents, and Pokémon are no different.

These “pocket monsters” seem to love art museums. Sightings at LACMA, MOCA, The Getty and The Broad are numerous. On a recent visit to LACMA Dodou was checking out the Art of the Americas building, while Pikachu hung out at Chris Burden’s “Urban Light.” Are you a fan of Cindy Sherman’s photographs now on exhibit at The Broad? So is Poliwag.

Pokémon at restaurants and wine tastings

Nearly every neighborhood of Los Angeles has a vibrant restaurant scene. But the diversity of cafes along Culver Boulevard in Culver City, all around Santa Monica, or the area around L.A. Live and/or The Walt Disney Hall in Downtown LA are particularly packed with the highly active Pokémon. Some recent glimpses have included Growlithe and Geodude in Culver City and Machop, Jolteon, Mankey, Exeggcute, and Poliwag in Downtown.

Pokémon on hikes

Celebrities and Trainers all have a strong desire to keep in shape. In fact, Niantic insists their Trainers walk, or eggs won’t hatch into great creatures like Staryu, Sandshrew, or even the great Aerodactyl. So, it’s not a surprise to find Pokémon along the hiking trails as well. On a recent walk along the boardwalk path of Culver City Park, Abra, Clefairy, Venonat, Pidgy, Elkans, Geodude, Weedle and Diglett all popped up.

Pokémon like to shop

Of course hot spots like Rodeo Drive, the Beverly Center and The Grove attract millions of shoppers annually with fabulous clothing and merchandise. So naturally Pidgey, Ekans, and Rattata are always seen wandering about the various retailers. But more elusive creatures can also be seen. Spearow, Ponyta, Pidgeotto, and Jigglypuff couldn’t get enough of L.A.’s fine couture at The Grove stores. And even Kadabra was seen lurking outside of Whole Foods across from The Grove.
