It was six years ago when the world was first introduced to Harry Styles, who would soon become a worldwide superstar as part of the singing group One Direction after auditioning for a spot on the "X-Factor."

The then-16-year-old student was nervous as he approached the panel of judges of the hit British talent competition, but seemed calm once he began singing his own rendition of the iconic Stevie Wonder tune, "Isn't She Lovely."

Styles was then revealed as the superstar he would eventually become in the eyes of show judges Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh.

After his rendition of the soulful tune, Styles explained to the judges that he had just finished his high school career and was planning to attend college in September to study business, sociology, and law.

The former baker's assistant wowed the judges, including the usually unflappable Simon Cowell.

Scherzinger remarked that she was very impressed with Style's vocal ability stating, “For 16-years-old you have a beautiful voice.”

Cowell added to the former "Pussycat Dolls" star's comment, "I think with a bit of vocal coaching you actually could be very good.”

The only judge not on board with Styles was Walsh who stated, “I think you’re so young, I don’t think you have enough experience or confidence yet.”

The young singer was allowed to move on to the next round of competition, but was soon booted off the show alongside four other young and unknown singers; Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson.

The five were later called back to the series and were allowed to stay, as long as they agreed to perform as a group, a suggestion made to the panel by Scherzinger.

One Direction legend has it that Harry Styles came up with the name during the band's time on the talent show because they had to go in "one direction" to win it all.

The group would later come in third place in the competition, but Simon Cowell predicted during the show's finale that "This is just the beginning for these boys."

One Direction would make their formal debut as a group in 2010 with the album "Up All Night." The band would go on to release four more albums before taking a band hiatus at the end of 2015.
