If you are a fan of Netflix, then we have some great news for you. The streaming service and network is clearly doing extremely well so far, which is why they have decided to up their game in terms of creating original content, and focus on bringing in many more unique shows of their own to the Netflix line-up.

Going big, going straight to your home

Netflix is working towards drastically increasing their library with their own shows, and according to Netflix CFO David Wells, they intend to fill half their library with their own content.

Variety reported that Netflix is about one-third to halfway towards reaching this target, which means that we could potentially see twice or thrice as many Netflix shows as currently available.

Scope of success

The network managed to hit it really big this year with a few shows doing extremely well with audiences, especially "Stranger Things." David Wells doesn’t expect all the new shows to do as well, though, as he says: “We don’t necessarily have to have home runs … We can also live with singles, doubles and triples especially commensurate with their cost."

Fan favorites

Netflix has been doing extremely well critically, although we can’t really speak about their commercial success due to their secretive business model. After "House of Cards" and "Orange is the new Black" put them on the map, shows like "Narcos," "Daredevil" and "Bojack Horseman" have managed to carry the mantle and keep them on par with other television giants.

They have also been on a great run with their comedy specials, giving a platform to some of the best and sometimes under-appreciated artists in the industry. Bo Burnham's special - "Make Happy," was without a doubt the highlight of this past year. I am personally most excited about "Black Mirror" coming to Netflix, allowing the brilliant series to find a larger audience and even create more episodes with larger budgets.

With Netflix investing on such a large scale in their original content, we can expect the ‘Netflix and chill’ culture to thrive and prosper in the immediate future.
