Luke Pell lost The Bachelor lead in an announcement that sent shockwaves throughout. When fans learned that Nick Viall would get the gig, they were astounded at the last-minute change. Apparently this was also the case for Luke after all of the wardrobe fittings, contract agreements, and travel plans. He's told media outlets that he had his bag packed when he got the phone call that producers wanted to go "in a different direction" for the show.

According to the show's host, Chris Harrison, Luke Pell could still become The Bachelor. He said in a recent interview with E! News that his chance at finding love on the show hasn't been ruled out.

Don't rule out Luke

Harrison said each season the franchise has "multiple candidates" to choose from, but producers wanted to go with the most "deserving" and "sincere" candidate. Obviously, they didn't think Luke was the candidate.

"... I think people need to understand this isn't an indictment on Luke," Harrison said.

The longtime host of the reality show stressed that fans may still see Luke on Bachelor in Paradise next year or he may get the big part.

"He's a great guy, a super nice guy, and we may see him next summer in Paradise, we may see him as the next Bachelor.

Who knows? I mean look what happened with Nick! You never know who could come back...I would still say Luke would be a great bachelor, but Nick, as of right now, is our guy."

There was a reason Nick got the gig instead

In an eye-opening Entertainment Tonight report, insiders say Luke Pell lost The Bachelor gig because there were indications he was more interested in doing the show to promote his country music career than to find love. A source said it was evident that was all Luke cared about during the process was how it was going to affect his aspiring career. Finally, the idea of having two bachelors in 2017 wasn't an option, Harrison explained.

He said there wasn't a 50/50 favorite like there was with The Bachelorette 2015 stars, Kaitlyn Bristowe and Britt Nilsson.

A petition has been going around to have both Luke and Nick appear as The Bachelor, but ABC isn't planning another switch-up. Chris Harrison added that if Luke lost the lead only for Nick to get it, there was a reason for it. He emphasized that in the end, they had to go with the most "sincere" guy.

So, if fans are hoping Harrison was hinting that Luke Pell could by some slight chance get the gig back for The Bachelor 2017, he's not.

He simply stated that 2018 is possible. A lot of things can change in a year, especially after The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise 2017 seasons run with all-new contestants. It's possible by then Luke won't be the clear favorite anymore.
