Origins

Blasting News (BN): What inspired you to become an actress?

Havana Guppy (HG): I've always loved the feeling that I get when I've just watched an amazing scene.

One that leaves me truly touched. I wanted to someday make someone feel the way I felt. Knowing I made someone feel something so deep would be so self-rewarding. It's definitely been a major inspiration for me.

BN: Growing up, what kinds of media had the biggest impact on you? Why?

HG: The movie “Little Miss Sunshine” starring Steve Carell and Toni Collette really made we want to be an actor. I remember being young and watching young Abigail Breslin, thinking, "I need to do something like that". I'm still a huge fan of that movie, and whenever I watch it, I get that feeling all over again.

BN: How many roles have you played and what's your favorite?

HG: In the last two years I've been in “She Who Must Burn,” “Shut Eye,” “Haters Back Off” and “Aftermath”. I have loved every single thing I've been in but I do have to say “Shut Eye” and “She Who Must Burn” are definitely some of my most memorable ones.

Both characters were so fun to play and very different too.

BN: How did you land the role on "Shut Eye"? What most interests you about Drina?

HG: When I first read the audition scene for Drina, I instantly felt like I knew her. In a weird way, I felt like I could relate to her. I think all of that definitely helped me in the audition room. Drina is such a strong character. Throughout the season she is trying to break free from the family norm and become an independent woman. I feel like all teenage girls will relate to Drina, feeling like they want to do their own thing.

BN: What has been the most rewarding thing about being involved in the entertainment industry?

HG: The industry has introduced me to the most amazing people. I have met the most unique, strong, independent, creative, and caring humans through this business. I have created so many strong relationships from the creative projects I've worked on; definitely one of the most rewarding things about being in this otherwise crazy industry.

BN: What is your “dream role”?

HG: My dream role would be a lead in a very dark, comedic film; a role that would be very emotionally challenging.

A film that would leave me a stronger actor than I was before.

BN: Career-wise, where do you hope to be in ten years?

HG: In ten years I hope to have acting as my main source of income so that it is my only job. I'm not looking for fame, just hoping to be able to support myself and my future family through doing what I love. That would make me truly happy.

BN: Are there any upcoming projects that you want to mention?

HG: Other than “Shut Eye” I will be seen in the new series “Aftermath” and “Haters Back Off”. My role "Mary" in Aftermath was such an interesting character to play. I had never played one like her before. Working with the YouTube sensation Miranda Sings on “Haters Back Off” is definitely an experience I'll never forget.

BN: What advice would you give to aspiring actresses

HG: Work hard and stay true to yourself. There are lots of people who will try to discourage you, but you need to ignore them and keep fighting until you get there, wherever "there" is for you.
