We have some new spoilers on Game of Thrones season 7: Joe Dempsie has been spotted in Belfast, which clearly indicates that his character, the long-lost Gendry, bastard son of Robert Baratheon, will return in the HBO's TV series in summer 2017.

Gendry in Game of Thrones season 3

Let's recap what Gendry did in the last episodes we saw him. After escaping Harrenhal, he decided to stay with the Brotherhood Without Banners, explaining that the Brotherhood was the closest thing he's had to a family.

After Melisandre's arrival, the Brotherhood sold Gendry to the red priestess for two bags of gold. Gendry and Melisandre traversed Blackwater Bay and soon the priestess revealed her goal: she seduced Gendry than tied him up and leeched his royal blood. Shortly after, Robert Baratheon's bastard son is relegated to a cell beneath Dragonstone, where Davos Seaworth finally set him free. The last time we saw Gendry was in a rowboat when he was discreetly trying to leave Dragonstone.

Joe Dempsie at Belfast Airport

As you can see from the picture below, Joe Dempsie is back on 'Game of Thrones' filming location. Even if we cannot be 100% sure that he will return for the next season, it is almost certain that Gendry will pop up again in GOT season 7.

Reddit user Sethg119's cool theory about Gendry

Where will we see Gendry again?

It's not easy to provide an answer. An interesting theory was submitted on Reddit a year ago. According to Sethg119's hypothesis, we will see "Gendry again in Oldtown when Sam starts his studies as a Maester. I believe that Sam will study the creation of Valyrian Steel and will require a smith. He will then go to the smith that resides in Oldtown who will be no other than Gendry".

This theory is credible, considering that Gendry was Tobho Mott's apprentice in King’s Landing, (one of the few smiths with knowledge of how to rework Valyrian steel), but we must point out that Oldtown is very far from Dragonstone, and even if Gendry could have traveled the distance, he might have chosen to stay in a smaller and better-hidden place.
