When "Dancing With The Stars" 2016 resumes on Sept. 26, co-host Erin Andrews will not be on hand to chat up the season 23 contestants following their high stakes Face-Off Night battles. Long-time "DWTS" host Tom Bergeron confirmed --and explained-- Andrews' planned absence from the hit reality dance competition via a Sept. 25 tweet to followers.

Why will Erin Andrews miss 'Dancing with the Stars' on Sept. 26?

Per Bergeron, Andrews will be absent from the one-hour Sept. 26 live show as she lends support to boyfriend and professional hockey player Jarret Stoll, whose nephew passed away on Sept.

25. He went on to confirm that he will host Monday's episode of "DWTS" by himself, but will be joined by an "as yet undetermined" fill-in during Tuesday night's results show. Although he did not name names, previous fill-ins for the co-host position have included former "Dancing with the Stars" contestants Leah Remini and Alfonso Ribeiro.

'DWTS' face-off night

Although Erin Andrews will miss the live show, the celebrities competing for the season 23 Mirrorball Trophy will continue withtheir respective "DWTS" journeys on Monday night.

The Presidential debate-shortened one-hour episode will feature the hopefuls taking part in Face-Off Night, which will pit couple against couple for immunity. The match-ups for the all-new and exciting evening of action as are follows:

  • Laurie Hernandez and Valentin Chmerkovskiy versus Marilu Henner and Derek Hough (tango)
  • Maureen McCormick and Artem Chigvintsev versus Amber Rose and Maksim Chmerkovskiy (salsa)
  • Terra Jole and Sasha Farber versus Calvin Johnson Jr. and Lindsay Arnold (Viennese waltz)
  • Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko versus Babyface and Allison Holker (jive)
  • James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess versus Ryan Lochte and Cheryl Burke (cha cha cha)
  • Vanilla Ice and Witney Carson versus Rick Perry and Emma Slater (paso doble)

"Dancing with the Stars" 2016 performance shows air Mondays at 8 PM Eastern/Pacific on ABC.
