Dancing With The Stars fans have a new season ahead of them with Season 23 ready to premiere and there are some juicy changes to the slate of professional dancers participating this fall. Maksim Chmerkovskiy is back, but Peta Murgatroyd will not be on DWTS this time around. What is the scoop on this shift?

Dancing With the Stars brought Maks back as Peta takes a break

Fans know that Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd got engaged last December and now they are expecting their first child together.

Rumors about a baby started swirling after the spring Dancing With the Stars finale, and as Us Weekly noted in May, they will be welcoming a baby in a matter of months. Given the pregnancy, Murgatroyd needed to take Season 23 of DWTS off. Having Chmerkovskiy come back, however, was a big surprise for fans.

Allison Holker did participate as a pro the season leading into the birth of her child not long ago, but the timing was significantly different as she wrapped up her run before her pregnancy hit the third trimester.

In Peta's case, she has just a few months to go before Baby Chmerkovskiy arrives, so she is going to be watching rather than participating this time around. However, her absence seemed like the perfect opportunity for her fiance to step back into the Dancing With the Starsmix of things.
