"American Horror Story" has entertained us for the past five seasons with troubled characters, complex plots, and interesting settings. Each season comprises a specific theme in the anthology series and the latest season may be one of the best yet. Season 6 of the show is inspired by the real life Roanoke colony which saw an entire settlement of people surprisingly vanish without a trace.

The road so far

The main plot takes place in contemporary times and surrounds a couple, Matt (played by Cuba Gooding Jr.) and Shelby Miller (played by show alumni Sarah Paulson), as they move into their new home in North Carolina. Strange haunting occurrences begin after the couple enters their new home, which they both wrongly attribute to racist neighbors.

However, the “American Horror Story: Roanoke” plot takes inspiration from the "Twilight Zone" as well, and we are frequently shown interviews of the real Matt and Shelby. More influences for the season include Charles Manson and the movie “The Mist” with Steven King's work said to have influenced the current season a lot. Episode two of the current season clearly echoed works such as: “The Shining” and “Misery” with show alumni Denis O'Hare finally making his debut as the strung out writer Dr. Elias Cunningham. Cunningham is a former resident of the home where Matt and Shelby now live and he detailed some of the dark history of the home for the couple.

Yet, still, so much of the story and the characters is unknown right now. Lady Gaga made her debut on the show in the last episode as a wild woman by fellow alumni Kathy Bates's side. We know that Gaga, Bates, and show alumni Matt Bomer are ghosts, but their stories are still locked in mystery.

Who is Evan Peters this season?

Moreover, Evan Peters has yet to debut this season, which could only mean his character will be something special after his memorable portrayal as serial killer James March last season. Hopefully, more questions will be answered as "American Horror Story: Roanoke" returns tonight with episode three. Make sure to tune in to unravel the mysteries still lurking in this new season!
