Taylor Swift proves once again – in one million ways – why she is music'squeen of charity. The 26-year-old singer and actress graciously offered $1 million in assistance to Louisiana state flood relief efforts on Tuesday when she spoke with The Associated Press about her affection for the people of Louisiana.

“We began The 1989 World Tour in Louisiana, and the wonderful fans there made us feel completely at home,” Swift said. “The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their own homes this week is heartbreaking.”

Blasting News reported that there had been 11 confirmed deaths in the state due to flooding.

But the official death toll was raised to 13 after authorities reported the deaths of an unidentified male in his 50s and an elderly woman who resided in Livingston Parish. Thousands havebeen evacuated since heavy rains of 20 inches or more began to fall in hard-hit areas like Baton Rouge since last week. To date, 20 parishes have been declared disaster zones.

Besides Taylor Swift’s $1 million donation to Louisiana flood relief efforts, ordinary citizens have been taking up fund-raising efforts of their own.Blasting News reported Wednesday that Louisiana resident Meaghan Ellis’ #GoFundMepage was created to raise money for relatives who were displaced by flooding. Ellis opened her home up to shelter family members and was hoping that she could raise funds to cover their accrued medical costs as well as property damage suffered during the flooding.
