Taylor Swift proves once again – in one million ways – why she is music's queen of charity. The 26-year-old singer and actress graciously offered $1 million in assistance to Louisiana state flood relief efforts on Tuesday when she spoke with The Associated Press about her affection for the people of Louisiana.

“We began The 1989 World Tour in Louisiana, and the wonderful fans there made us feel completely at home,” Swift said. “The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their own homes this week is heartbreaking.”

Flooding

Blasting News reported that there had been 11 confirmed deaths in the state due to flooding.

But the official death toll was raised to 13 after authorities reported the deaths of an unidentified male in his 50s and an elderly woman who resided in Livingston Parish. Thousands have been evacuated since heavy rains of 20 inches or more began to fall in hard-hit areas like Baton Rouge since last week. To date, 20 parishes have been declared disaster zones.

Besides Taylor Swift’s $1 million donation to Louisiana flood relief efforts, ordinary citizens have been taking up fund-raising efforts of their own. Blasting News reported Wednesday that Louisiana resident Meaghan Ellis’ #GoFundMe page was created to raise money for relatives who were displaced by flooding.

Ellis opened her home up to shelter family members and was hoping that she could raise funds to cover their accrued medical costs as well as property damage suffered during the flooding.

A charitable superstar

Taylor Swift’s latest act of charity is unlikely to be her last. The star has a proven track record of donating to numerous causes. Besides her $1 million donation to Louisiana flood relief, she has supported at least 29 other charities and foundations, including well-known organizations like Habitat For Humanity, PETA, and UNICEF, to name a few.

This includes a hefty $100,000 donation to the Red Cross in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 2008 to help flood victims there.

Forbes ranked Taylor Swift at number 60 on their June 21st, 2016 list of Self-Made Women. Her net worth is $250 million.
