Ryan Lochte reportedly was scheduled to compete on Dancing with the Stars before getting into trouble at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. Season 23 of the popular dance competition show on ABC premieres on September 12. The reality show always has an athlete, so this news is not unusual. What is interesting is that the investigation surrounding Lochte and his teammates is ongoing.

Lochte has lost four sponsors since he admitted he embellished what he and his three teammates on the USA swim team did at a gas station during a drunken escapade. It is likely that more sponsors will drop him. There could be some other forms of punishment for the swimmers.

All four of the men face a hearing before a discipline commission of the International Olympic Committee.

Who is Ryan Lochte?

Ryan Lochte is a competitive swimmer. The 32-year-old Rochester, New York native is a 12-time Olympic medalist. He has won six gold medals, three silver medals, and three bronze medals.  This makes him second in Swimming behind Michael Phelps who has won 23 medals.  Up until now, Lochte was on his way to greatness, but the trouble he got into during the Summer Olympics might have a bad impact on his career. Law enforcement officials are still investigating the incident.

Some believe when he is dancing, people will be reminded of his action in Rio. The scandal might adversely influence the judges and voters. Some think he should stay in the pool because he doesn't appear to be someone cut out for the ballroom floor anyway.

Some people on social media believe Lochte should sit this one out even though it is rumored that he had a deal before the unfortunate situation in Rio. Lawyers for Dancing With The Stars are very strict. Even though a deal is in place, there might be some legal loophole that will prevent him from competing after all.

The entire cast will be announced August 30 on Good Morning America. The public will see then if it is true that Lochte will be one of the dancers. What do you think? Do you want to see Lochte on Dancing with the Stars? Do you think the show will be a good platform for him to redeem himself?
