Maks is back! Maksim Chmerkovskiy is heading back to Dancing With The Stars in September. It was just announced on Good Morning America on Thursday as a surprise, and the pro dancer couldn’t be happier about it. While he was supposed to have hung up his dancing shoes four years ago, he has suddenly changed his mind and will be joining the cast for season 23 of the dance competition.

Why did he change his mind?

Everyone is entitled to change their minds, even Maks Chmerkovskiy. He won the mirror ball trophy with a celebrity partner, Meryl Davis, back in 2012 and had since chosen to retire from competing on the show.

He spoke to the GMA team on Thursday morning saying that he had reflected on his years on Dancing with the Stars, and he has since decided that everything good that has happened in his life is somehow connected to the ABC show.

The 36-year-old pro has a lot of good things happening in his life these days. One of the ways that the dance competition has brought joy into Maksim’s life is his fiancé, Peta Murgatroyd. They are getting married soon and also expecting a baby boy in a few months. Life couldn’t be more positive for the Ukrainian.

Will Maksim be toning it down?

Chmerkovskiy has always been somewhat of a bad boy on the show. The most memorable incident happened with judge Len Goodman in 2011 when he had heated words with Len. At that time, Maks had told him that he made DWTS what it is and called it his show. This exchange of words between the two men surprised everyone and certainly made headlines. Of course, all seems well these days among them after apologies were made.

It will be interesting to see if Maksim Chmerkovskiy will tone it down some now that his life is somewhat different now than it was four years ago. He has since sat at the judges’ table on Dancing with the Starsa few times, so he really had never left completely. He may be right when he said that there is no reason to stay away from stuff that you have some type of relationship with. Who would make a good celebrity partner for Maksim this season?
