Shannen Doherty has been battling cancer for almost a year, and has been brave enough to share the news and her frightening journey with her fans. Yesterday, Tuesday 19th July she decided to tell her 252,000 Instagram followers that she has decided to shave her head.

The 45-year-old actress has been suffering from breast cancer since August 2015 and the 90210 star has had her friends and family around her supporting her at all times.

Shannen made the decision too shave off all of her hair, a decision which many victims of cancers chose as part of the therapy results in hair loss which occurs in clumps and leaves bald patches on your head.

Doherty posted the announcement on Instagram by posting a picture of herself with her hair half shaved, she wrote “Cupcake pan, chocolates and a razor...Stay tuned. @annemkortright has got this. #cancersucks #thankgodforfriends.”

Another photo of the star was released which shows Shannen using scissors to cut off the majority of her long brown locks, before later using a razor to get closer to the scalp.

What is nice to see is that Doherty put on a very brave face and allowed her friends to take pictures during the process, doing silly poses while only half of her hair had been shaved.

Shannen Doherty can no longer have children

The ‘Charmed’ actress revealed the devastating news that the treatment would mean that she is no longer able to have children, this is something she bravely shared during an interview on The Dr Oz Show. She said “I’m 44 and my husband and I wanted children.”

Doherty’s doctor first wanted her to go on drug treatment and chemotherapy to see if it would help to reduce the size of the tumor, so she has not yet had the lump in her breast removed.

Doherty has said that she completely trusts her surgeon/doctor and has left the ultimate decision of what operation she should have down to them, saying “What would you do if it was your wife? What would you do if it was your daughter?”

Doherty has said that vanity is not a factor for her when she considers a double mastectomy, she said “They’re just breasts. In the grand scheme of things, I would rather be alive and I would rather grow old with my husband.” She and her husband have been married for 5 years, they wed in 2011.
