It’s been 16 years since we first saw Tim Curry’s iconic role of Pennywise on ABC’s 1990 miniseries of Stephen King’s adaptation of It. Now the bone-chilling book about a group of friends haunted by a demon that plays off their fears is getting a movie. It was announced a few months ago that Warner Bros would be taking the movie from an endless stream of delaysand finally put it on the big screen. Originally intended to be leadby Cary Fukunga, who produced and directedBeasts of No Nation and True Detective, the film will be directed by Andrés Muschietti, director of the 2013 horror filmMama.

From what we know now, the film will be split into two parts; Part 1 coming from the children's point of view and Part 2 coming from the film's adult characters.Part 1 is currently set to hit theaters Sept. 8, 2017.

Who will reprise the iconic Pennywise role?

Viewers finally got a peak at the first picture of the horrifying main character known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Bill Skarsgård, from Netflix’s original series Hemlock Grove, was tapped to play the role despite rumors of Will Poulter playing the clown.

Bill is the younger brother to The Legend of Tarzan actor Alexander Skarsgård and the son of actor Stellan Skarsgård.

How different will Skarsgård’s adaptation be from Curry’s original role?

“It’s important we do something fresh and original for this one,” Skarsgård to Entertainment Weekly. From the first picture of Pennywise, fans can see just how different Skarsgård’s Pennywise will be. Unlike the messy and greasy clown from 1990, this new Pennywise will look more like The Dark Knight’s Joker.

And because Bill is significantly younger than Curry was at the time of his filming(Skarsgård is 25 and Curry was about 50), the age difference between Pennywise and the friend group will be smaller, almost appearing like a reflection of themselves.

Despite the cleaner and crisper version, Skarsgård's version won't be any less terrifying. It will definitely scare the pants off anyone brave enough to see the movie, even if you aren't afraid of clowns.
