Javier Bardem has been rumored to play a role in Universal Monster Universe’s series of films in which they revive horror heroes. The Universal’s studio has upcoming Frankenstein Movies and has been looking for a lead actor to fill the role, if Bardem were to star he would join actors such as Johnny Depp and Tom Cruise.

Javier Bardem joins cast of Tom Cruise, Johhny Depp and Russell Crowe

So far Universal have announced that they are developing the movies Frankenstein’s Monster, Count Dracula, The Wolf Man, Gill-man, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein and The Mummy. Moreover they have revealed that the ones they are currently working on now include Dracula, The Mummy and The Invisible Man.

Stars already confirmed for the movies are Russell Crowe and Tom Cruise in The Mummy, whilst Johnny Depp is set to play the protagonist in The Invisible Man.

The horror films will be adapted to be more action-adventure movies and will be set in the present, the company’s chairman revealed that the reason for this was to enable the films to “reimagine and reintroduce them to a contemporary audience.”

Javier Bardema already has villain skills, as we have seen in Skyfall and No Country for Old Men

We have already seen Bardem’s skills at playing a villan/monster as he played a psychopathic assassin in No Country for Old Men, as well as playing baddie Raoul Silva in Skyfall. Bardem was nominated for a BAFTA and a SAG for his role as Best Supporting Actor in Skyfall.

Javier’s baddie character in Skyfall was particularly believable with his slicked back blonde hair and intimidating persona, his role was as a fomer MI6 agent and sees Bardem’s character’s face deteriorate and collapse due to his lack of top jaw.

Javier Bardem turned down playing Dr Jekyll, but Frankenstein he could not turn down

Very few details of Bardem’s role in Frankenstein have been revealed but he would be great at playing either the scientist or the monster creature. Bardem was approached to play Dr Jekyll alongside Tom Cruise in the film The Mummy but Bardem turned down the opportunity, however his villain skills are too good to let go so no doubt he will play an excellent Frankenstein.

What is also unknown is exactly when Bardem will enter into the monster film, it could be in time for Bride of Frankenstein, or it might be that he joins after. Universal Pictures have nearly completed the filming of The Mummy which will be released in 2017, then The Invisible Man is set to be released in 2018.
