HBO recently announced Game of Thrones season 7 release date and episode count. The next season of the TV show will not premiere in April as usual: we will have to wait a little more to see Daenerys' invasion of Westeros.

GOT premiere date.

As HBO announced in a press release, Game of Thrones is set to start production on season 7 this summer, but not premiere until the summer of 2017. "Instead of the show's traditional spring debut", Carter Bloys, president of HBO programming, said, "we're moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule".

GOT showrunners told the press that season 7 was going to be delayed shortly after GOT season 6 finale.

"Winter is here", D.B. Weiss said, "and that means that sunny weather doesn't really serve our purposes anymore. So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim, grey weather" in the "places that we shoot." We think it's safe to say that the seventh season of the series won't premiere in August, so we think that it's likely to premiere between the end of June and the first half of July.

Seven episodes in season seven.

As expected, the seventh season of GOT will be a little shorter: the next season will be 7 episodes long instead of 10. If what Benioff and Weiss told the press will be confirmed in the future, GOT season 8 will be even shorter and will feature only 6 episodes.

Cast and confirmed returning guest stars.

At the moment the following actors as been confirmed as returning guest stars in GOT season seven:

  • Pilou Asbæk as King Euron Greyjoy
  • Anton Lesser as Qyburn
  • Gemma Whelan as Queen Yara Greyjoy
  • Josephine Gillan as Marei (the prostitute we saw in Pycelle's room in GOT 6x10)

As reported by Watchers on the Wall, the show is currently casting two young Northern characters, a 16-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy who will take part "in what’s being called a high-stakes scene with leading cast members."

As you can imagine, several new theories about GOT season 7 already surfaced: here you can find a fascinating theory about what is going to happen to Littlefinger.
