'Game of Thrones'' fans, HBO has announced that they will be ending the hit Emmy Award-winning series with the eighth season, which means there is a lot to cover in very little time. This is also the news that no dedicated Thrones' fan ever wanted to hear. Casey Bloys the programming director for HBO made the announcement on Saturday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills revealing that he plans to fully support David Benioff and Dan Weiss' desire to end the series with season eight.

HBO reveals disappointing news

"Yes, they have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do, Bloys said. "Believe me, as the new programming executive coming in if I could get them to do more I would take ten more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do the best version of the show."

The next question Bloys answered was if he would consider doing a Thrones spin-off series? Bloys claims that the subject has been brought up, and it is not out of the question.

However, at this time it has not been discussed as seriously as an option for a new HBO series, but that does not mean that it will, or will not happen in the future.

What the future holds for 'Game of Thrones'

Fans were also very upset by the announcement of the production delay. Thrones will not pick back up with season seven until next summer. Irate fans were very vocal via social media about having to wait so long between seasons.

The long delay will also hurt Thrones next year when it comes time for the Emmy Awards. This year GOT received a whopping 23 nominations, several more than any other series.

What's next for TV fans?

Many are not over the holes left in their television viewing lineups left by "Sons of Anarchy," and "Breaking Bad," to name a couple, and heaven help us all when AMC and the showrunners decide that it is time for "The Walking Dead" to come to an end.

We hope that out there some TV writers are ready with the next big thing in television to soothe the pain.
