A lot has been said and speculated about the third anime series in the Dragon Ball franchise, it certainly divided the fans into two parties, the ones who love it and the ones who hate it. Some fans enjoyed the plot and the new characters while others criticized some of the unusual transformations, just like the one of Vegeta into Super Saiyan 4.

Dragon Ball GT in DB Super?

There has been a lot of talk in regard to whether or not DBGT is canon. In an interview by "Mision Tokyo" with Todayoshi Yamamuro he said some interesting facts concerning this controversial series, which didn't reach 100 episodes.

Let's remember that this Japanese artist is recognized as the best animator and illustrator of the DB franchise, and he also directed the movie 'Resurrection F.'

The director, Yamamuro, revealed that it was Akira Toriyama who approved the making of DragonBGT, he chose the name and also designed some of the characters.

Many fans have denied this rumor, but now it is confirmed.

DBGT spin-off?

On the other hand, when he was asked about the new transformation modes that appear in Dragon Ball Super (the Super Saiyan God, Super Saiyan Blue) and if they forgot about Super Saiyan 4, from GT, he said "Historically, in the arc Buu, he transforms into Super Saiyan 3." About Super Saiyan God, it appears in the 'Resurrection F.' And after that appears DBGT and Super Saiyan 4."

What about now?

He then explained that the script of the series DBGT was written by the company Toei Animation and not by Akira Toriyama. So, according to Yamamuro, Dragon Ball GT is mainly a spin-off, but story-wise GT is connected with Dragon Ball Super, even though it was not part of Toriyama's manga. Could DBSuper cover the GT storyline and even improve it? Is there any chance for a GT reboot keeping the good aspects of the series? In the meantime, the divide between fans may still have to carry on, but, ultimately, if you're a fan of the Dragon Ball universe, more content and more storylines isn't necessarily a band thing.
