Tom Hiddleston may have just hinted that he'd be open to portraying iconic British spy James Bond, if he were ever offered a role in the ongoing series, which casts a new actor as 007 every few years. Hiddleston's remarks come after a number of rumors about him playing James Bond have been circulated for the past few weeks.

Was Tom Hiddleston offered the role of James Bond?

According to an interview that the actor did on British talk show The Graham Norton Show this week, so far he hasn't been offered the titular part in the series, although he has always been a big fan of the James Bond series. Speaking to show host Graham Norton about whether or not he was offered the role, Hiddleston said:

“No, no one’s talked to me at all.

I think its come about because in The Night Manager I play a spy, and we all know that in the iconography of British culture there is a spy that we all know, and his name is James Bond. So people have made the link.”

Is Tom Hiddleston a fan of 007?

During the interview, Hiddleston was also asked if he was a fan of the long running spy series, and whether or not he had seen the latest film in the franchise, with the actor saying that he had seen almost all of the films. Speaking about his love for the film series, the actor said:

“I’m a huge fan of the series. We all went to see Spectre when we were shooting Skull Island in Hawaii. I simply love the theme tune, the tropes and the mythology. I love the whole thing."

Would he ever portray James Bond on film?

During the interview on The Graham Norton Show, Tom Hiddleston was also asked if he'd ever portray 007 on screen, and while he remained coy about the subject, he did offer an answer to the host and live audience, saying that if he ever got the opportunity, he more than likely wouldn't turn it down.

However, he didn't say that he definitely would take the role if he was offered. In his own words:

"If it ever came knocking, it would be an extraordinary opportunity.”

While it's not exactly a yes or a no, it's probably the only answer we'll get out of the actor.
