The 2016 Billboard Music Awards took place Sunday night. The show aired live beginning at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. It all took place at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The show was hosted by Ludacris and Ciara, with it being the third time Ludacris hosted and the first time for Ciara.

Billboard Millennium Award

Britney Spears kicked off the show with an over seven minute performance made up of a mix of many of her hit songs. It was a big night for Spears, as she was the recipient of the Billboard Millennium award, and was only the third performer to ever receive the award.


The other two artists who have received the Millennium award were Beyonce in 2011 and Whitney Houston in 2012. After Spears performance, the hosts took the stage to get the party started.

Live Performances 

The night was full of spectacular performances. Shawn Mendes performed a slowed down and beautiful version of his song, Stitches. Fifth Harmony sang Work from Home, and the always entertaining  Meghan Trainor sang her hit, No.

The nights next performance came from Justin Bieber and he sang two songs, Company and Sorry.

Bieber would later take home the award for Top Male Artist. Pink premiered her song Just Like Fire from the movie Alice through the Looking Glass. In usual Pink fashion, she was flying all over the arena while singing perfectly, stunning everyone in the audience.

Nick Jonas sang Close and Tove Lo joined him on stage mid-performance to sing with him. When that song came to an end, Demi Lovato performed Cool for the Summer. It was non-stop music, as Lukas Graham took the stage to  sing 7 Years. Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani performed together their new song, Go Ahead and Break my Heart, then DNCE speeded things up again with Cake by the Ocean. 

Kesha made it to the show and was joined by Ben Folds for a gorgeous cover of Bob Dylan's It Ain't Me Babe. Rihanna performed Love on the Brain and also won the Billboard Chart Achievement Award.

Top Videos of the Day

Seal made an appearance at the show to introduce a montage for Celine Dion, who received the Billboard Icon Award. After that, she sang The Show Must Go On. When her performance ended, her son came on stage and presented Celine with the award. 

Troye Sivan sang Youth and the 80s' band the Go-Gos took the stage to sing We Got the Beat . Then the one and only Ariana Grande sang her hot new tune, Dangerous Woman. 

The highly anticipated Prince tribute started with Let’s Go Crazy playing and purple lights throughout the arena.

Then Madonna appeared in a purple throne as she began singing Nothing Compares 2U. Once that song concluded, Stevie Wonder joined her on stage and the show concluded with the two them singing Purple Rain

The first award of the night was for Top Hot 100 ARTIST and it went to The Weeknd. He also won Top R&B Song for his song, The Hills. The Billboard Music Award for Top Hot 100 Song was awarded to Wiz Khalifia for See You Again and Top Country Song went to Thomas Rhett for Die a Happy Man.

Adele got the win for Top Billboard 200 Album for 25.


She wasn't at the show because she is on her world tour, so she recorded a thank you speech for the fans. Right after she won, the world premier of her video Send my Love to Your New Lover was played. Adele also won the Top Artist Award.
