On May 14, Largerthanlife, a gifted boy band cover group, played a concert at Mulcahy's Pub and Concert Hall in Wantagh on Long Island, and they were able to deliver. The 90's Band served as their opening act, and they put on a solid show as well. Largerthanlife is comprised of such band members as Edvin, Chris, Devin and Toly.

Largerthanlife: A well-rounded set

They commenced their set with a cover of the Backstreet Boys' "Larger Than Life," which was nostalgic and a great deal of fun. It was followed by a distinct version of N' Sync's "Tearin' Up My Heart" and "Peaches and Cream." They also tipped their hats to the iconic R&B group Boyz II Men with "Motown Philly" and they triumphed on "Hangin' Tough" by the New Kids on the Block, where they were successful in getting their fans to put their hands up in the air.

Largerthanlife continued with a medley of classic hits by such vocal groups as Jackson 5, Four Tops, The Temptations, The Bee Gees and The Monkees, among others.

Equally impressive were their follow-up New Kids on the Block tunes which included "Step by Step" and "You Got It (The Right Stuff)." It is safe to say that Largerthanlife covers the Backstreet Boys the best. Their performances of "The Call," "All I Have to Give" and "Everybody" were all stand-out vocals, but their highlight song of the evening was "I Want It That Way," where all the concert-goers were singing along with them.

Other beautiful ballads of the evening included the 98 Degrees classic "I Do (Cherish You)," as well as N' Sync's "I Drive Myself Crazy," both of which were absolutely infectious. Their version of Hanson's "MMMBop" was also a great deal of fun and uplifting, and the inclusion of "Back Here" by BBMak was an added treat.

The verdict

In summation, Largerthanlife put on a terrific show at Mulcahy's where they were able to revitalize songs by the greatest boy bands of our time and make them their own. Their choreography skills were noteworthy as well. They deserve two thumbs up for a job well done.
