When Dancing With The Stars 2016 continues May 16 on ABC, the five couples still gunning for the Mirrorball Trophy will again perform for America's votes and points from judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli. A May 11 report by Just Jared Jr. revealed plenty of details about the reality show's penultimate performance show of the season, from the dance styles that each pair will deliver to the identities of the DWTS pros who will take part in the evening's Trio round.

'DWTS' semifinals: The individual dances

The semifinals will kick off with a round of individual dances set to a variety of popular songs.

The styles and musical selections for each pair are as follows:

  • NFL star Antonio Brown and Sharna Burgess, contemporary, "Hall of Fame" (The Script)
  • Boyz II Men's Wanya Morris and Lindsay Arnold, Charleston, "Shame on Me" (Avicii)
  • Good Morning America's Ginger Zee and Val Chmerkovskiy, quickstep, "Fire Under My Feet" (Leona Lewis)
  • America's Next Top Model winner Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd, Argentine tango, "Unsteady" (X Ambassadors)
  • MMA fighter Paige VanZant and Mark Ballas, Argentine tango, "One Time" (Marian Hill)

The toughest task of all may well belong to VanZant and DiMarco, whose Argentine tangos will no doubt be compared by the panelists. Given that both have proven to be tough competitors, either could earn the higher mark.

The Trio Dances return

Each pair is also slated to deliver a Trio Dance, which will feature a previously eliminated pro dancer or a member of the DWTS performance troupe.

The Trio dances have historically earned high marks from the panelists and given the professional dancers a chance to show off their versatility as choreographers. The details for the May 16 show are as follows:

  • Brown and Burgess, joined by Hayley Erbert, Argentine tango to "Mi Confesion"
  • Morris and Arnold, joined by Witney Carson, paso doble to "Explosive"
  • Zee and Chmerkovskiy, joined by Artem Chigvintsev, paso doble to "Shot Me Down"
  • DiMarco and Murgatroyd, joined by Jenna Johnson, jive to "Hit the Road Jack"
  • VanZant and Ballas, joined by Alan Bersten, samba to "Hip Hip Chin Chin"

It's interesting to note that none of the couples chose to work with a professional who is the same gender as the celebrity contestant. Fielding two pros of the same gender will prevent the judges from inadvertently comparing the skills of a pro dancer with a less-skilled celebrity.

Who will rise to the top of the DWTS leaderboard? Which two couples will fall victim to elimination just a week shy of the season 22 finals? Watch Dancing with the Stars 2016 on May 16 to see for yourself.
