LIVE with Kelly and Michael fans prepare to get your hearts broken. Michael Strahan is exiting the show for a permanent position atGood Morning America (GMA). The former New York Giantsdefensive end will now be featured full-time on the morning newscast, prompting an exit from LIVE after servingas co-host forfour years.

An unexpected exit

Strahanhas been a regular contributor to GMA since 2014. Most of his stories have been lighthearted, interviewing Hollywood Celebrities and surprising unexpected fans.

Originally, the gig was supposed to be a side job, much like his weekendduties as an NFL sports analyst for FOX Sports.Fans at the time worried that Strahan might jump ship when he initially took the position in 2014, but Strahan assured them that he wasn't leaving LIVE for GMA. "This [LIVE with Kelly and Michael] is what I do. This is my home," said Strahan. "So don't worry anybody. I'm not going anywhere."

Fast forward two years later and it seems that the situation haschanged. There is no room in Strahan's busyschedule to accommodate two full-time jobs.

So, hewill retain his FOX Sports role but LIVE will be in need of a new co-host. Strahan issued a statement concerning the exit. "My time with LIVE with Kelly and Michael has been transformative, and my departure will be bittersweet. Kelly has been an unbelievable partner, and I am so thankful to her and the entire team. I am extremely grateful for the amazing support I've received from all of the fans."

Strahan became part of the LIVE team in 2012 after host, Regis Philbin retired.

The show auditioned 59 potential co-hosts including actor Jerry O'Connell and CNN's Anderson Cooper before finally deciding on Strahan. The 6'5" Football player dwarfed the petit Kelly Ripa, but the two made a dynamic duo. Their likeability as a team propelled them to become the number one daytime talk show in households in 2016and garnered both hosts a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host in 2015.

Multiple job offers for Strahan

Strahan seems to be a magnet for amazing job offers. Since he began his co-hosting duties with Ripa, he has not only had a full-time job and two part-time jobs, he's also been a guest-star in Television and film.

In 2015, he had a sultry turn in Magic Mike XXL, a part which heironically got when he stripped down and did a sexy dance while guest co-hosting LIVE.Magic Mike star, Channing Tatum was the guest that day. His smooth moves charmed the producers of LIVE and Tatum, and Strahan won both jobs.

He also guest starred on ABC's Black-ish, voiced a character in the upcoming Ice Age: Collision Courseand is currently in pre-production on the game show reboot, the $100,000 Pyramid.According to GMA, Strahan is set departLIVEin September.

Ripa and the show's producers will then resume the co-host search in the fall by having rotating guest co-host until they can decide on a permanent replacement.
