On April 3, country mega-star Jason Aldean emerged as the big winner at this year's Academy of Country Music (ACM) awards, which were held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. He took home the night's biggest award for Entertainer of the Year, which marks his first win in this prestigious category.

Aldean beats stiff competition

For the night's top award, Aldean bested fellow nominees Garth Brooks, Eric Church, reigning Female Vocalist of the Year Miranda Lambert, and country superstar Luke Bryan. The latter award candidate served as the co-host of this year's ceremony, along with country singer Dierks Bentley.

A Macon, Georgia, native, Aldean was also nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year, along with singer-songwriters Brett Eldredge, Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, and Chris Stapleton, but in that category Stapleton reigned supreme, especially since he had previously won that same honor at the Country Music Association (CMA) awards this past November.

In 2005, Aldean was named Top New Male Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music (ACM), and the rest has been history. Fast forward 10 years later, in 2015, where Aldean would elevate his win to Top Male Vocalist.

Aldean gracious in his acceptance speech

In his humble acceptance speech, Aldean remarked, "I was just starting to think that this one wasn't in the cards for me. I have a lot of people to thank," and he went on to extend his appreciation to his record label, Broken Bow Records, Benny Brown, his producer, Michael Knox, his booking agency William Morris and his team around him. He thanked country radio and proclaimed country music fans as the "best fans in the world." Aldean added that this was "one of the best nights of his professional career."

Aldean to bring tour to Long Island in New York
