American Idol alum James Durbin is back with his newest video for his single "Smackdown." In addition, he has been invited to perform on the American Idol finale show on April 7th. The rock singer-songwriter will be releasing his forthcoming full-length studio album this summer.

A Santa Cruz, California, native,Durbin was the fourth place finalist on the tenth season of the American Idol singing competition. He was influenced primarily by the iconic heavy metal band Judas Priest, and he performed "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" during his tenure on Idol. During the finale of the tenth season, he was able to sing with his idols, Judas Priest, on such tunes as "Livin' After Midnight" and "Breaking the Law."

Following his journey on Idol, he went on to release his debut studio album, "Memories of a Beautiful Disaster," which featured the hit single "Love Me Bad" and the follow-up "Higher Than Heaven," as well as "Outcast," a duet with Mick Mars from Motley Crue.

Durbin back with 'Smackdown' single

'Smackdown" is his first single in over two years, and it's going to be the lead-off single from his upcoming studio album, which has yet to be titled. It showcases Durbin's signature hard rock sound in a grand way due to its crunching guitar riffs and its epic drum beat. The song displays his maturity and growth as a recording artist.

Durbin to perform on 'American Idol' finale

Durbin is one of the many American Idol alums to perform on the finale show, which will take place on April 7th. He will be joined by such artists as inaugural winner Kelly Clarkson, country star Carrie Underwood, rocker Chris Daughtry, Season 7 winner David Cook, among many others.

In an official press release, Durbin noted that he is really "looking forward" to being a part of the series finale of Idol.

He shared that it is starting to hit him that this whole experience is going to be over, so it has been met with feelings of excitement and sadness. He is honored and thankful to share the end of this show with an incredibly talented Idol family.
