Turns out that the fourth time is a charm for Ed Sheeran. Giving thanks for Best Song of the Year award, he praised the faith of his parents for flying from England to the Grammy awards ceremony each year and “every year I lose they go, ‘Maybe next year.’”

You’ve Come a Long Way

Ed Sheeran has come a long way from couch surfing at Jamie Foxx’s home. After quitting school in 2008, he struggled to get his break in London before flying to Los Angeles with no contacts. Sheeran played at open mic nights until Foxx spotted him.

Knowing talent when he saw it, Foxx invited the young singer to work in his home studio and sleep there for six weeks.

Sheeran self-released two albums in 2010 and grew his fan base mostly through YouTube.

Drawing standing ovations at alive show, Foxx told him, “bro, you’re on your way.”

Sheeran also won the 2016 award for Best Pop Solo Performance.

Later, when Swift herself won for Best Album, she talked about overcoming people who have tried to undercut her success and take credit for her accomplishments.

No doubt referring to her troubled history with Kanye West, Swift finished by saying that “someday, when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there. And that will be the greatest feeling in the world.”

Sometimes Good Guys Do Finish First

With all the cutthroat shenanigans and scandals that typically make the news for the entertainment industry, it's rare that we appreciate the classic rags to riches story of the scrappy, ambitious dreamer who makes good.

Yet here it is.

Ed Sheeran celebrates his 25th birthday today. When asked how he wants to be remembered, Sheeran said, “I've always said that I wanna be known as the nicest and hardest working guy in the industry, so if I could be known as that that would be brilliant.”
