One Direction had decided to go on a hiatus and put their collective career as a band on hold. After five years and much success, the British boys reached a mutual agreement to take a break. At the end of last year, they voiced their decision, but they asked their fans to wait for them, because they would be back after an 18 month break. But, according to a close source, they are not planning to make the promised comeback, and the split looks to be permanent.

X Factor - They dreamed of solo careers

One Direction might be one of the most successful boy bands in the world, but they never intended to be in a band. They dreamed individually, and the five boys tried to make a solo career when they participated in the British X Factor in 2010. But, as Simon Cowell put them together, they started the band.

They reached the big final and they finished the contest in third place.

After the talent show was over, success came quickly for them. With the help of renowned Simon Cowell, they became very influential artists with legions of fans that call themselves the Directioners. After five albums and performances all around the world, they decided to make a break and take some rest, but, it's also possible that that very break could become a permanent one. "They’ll remain friends, but they are exhausted and want solo careers," an insider said to US Weekly.

They'll split after the hiatus

Since they announced their hiatus, many fans fear that this could be more than a break. And now, their fear is turning into a real thing, as One Direction are on the verge of calling it quits permanently. They decided “not to renew their recording contract," said the source. Their permanent split was hinted at when Zayn Malik left the band last march.

But, Nial Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, and Liam Payne have denied this up to this point.

Even when they announced the hiatus, they promised their fans that they would return, together, and as a band. More than bandmates, they became best friends over the last five years as they shared a lot of great moments together, on and off the stage.
