After his role in Fast and Furious 7, the star might get the job in a new blockbuster series: according to the News, he will appear in the second installment Guardians of the Galaxy. Although there wasn’t an official offer, The Wrap states that director James Gunn wants the star of The Hateful Eight (which is to be released at the beginning of next year) for a main role in the upcoming sequel.

According to the news, Russel would be cast as the father of Star-Lord, the protagonist of the Guardians of the Galaxy, who had already been mentioned in the first film. The actor hasn’t read the screenplay yet, but the first negotiations will begin soon.

The information hasn’t been approved by either Marvel or Russell’s spokesman, but the site mentioned insiders who participated in the casting process as the source of the news.

If the news proves true, the star that has been a bit forgotten nowadays might get lucky again. This year has already been quite successful for him as in spring he appeared in Fast and Furious 7. Quentin Tarantino’s newest and most promising movie, the awaited The Hateful Eight will be released in American cinemas at the end of December, in which the 64-year-old actor has an important role.

Russell is also set to appear in the action thriller directed by Peter Berg titled Deepwater Horizon, in which he will appear alongside Mark Wahlberg. Peter Berg is a proven powerhouse when it comes to directing films such as Hancock, Battleship, and Lone Survivor (all of which have garnered mush success).

If Marvel really contracts Russel in the Guardians of the Galaxy besides Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper, the actor won’t lack blockbusters in 2017, either. According to some sources, the space action-comedy’s production will start at the beginning of next year, and will finally hit theaters on May 5th, 2017.

Marvel certainly has a lot on its plate as it continues to traverse through phase three of its cinematic universe, with titles like Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, and others coming to theaters in the near future.
