J.K. Rowling released her new movie trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a Harry Potter prequel, on Dec. 15. This 1929 New York based movie is loosely based off of J.K. Rowling's short Hogwart's textbooks and a book of the same name.

The Fantastic Beasts plot

In this 1926 New York, witches and wizards have to hide their magic (along with creatures and potions) from Muggles much more than they did in Harry Potter's time.

A young man named Newt Scamander (Oscar winning Eddie Redmayne) has to be extra cautious, because he carries his suitcase with him all the time, and that suitcase holds magical creatures. He is a magizoologist, and studies these magical creatures. These mystic creatures haven't yet been revealed to us, but that leaves more fun for the viewers! We'll get to see exactly what it was like to be an American witch or wizard of these terribly hard times as we join Scamander on his adventure.

Other actors and actresses who will appear in the film include Colin Farrell (True Detective), Ezra Miller, Katherine Waterston (Steve Jobs), and Alison Sudol.

Since this all takes place in New York decades before Harry Potter's generation, many things are different. The name for Muggles has changed to "no-maj" (pronounced no-madge), it will take place at an American wizarding school rather than Hogwarts, and there will be an American equivalent of the Ministry of Magic called the Magical Congress of the United States of America.
