Trump/Cruz rivalry continues

Donald Trump has continued his rants against rival Ted Cruz. He called Cruz the most dishonest person he has ever met. After Cruz’s victory in Iowa, Trump claimed Cruz had committed fraud. According to CNN, Trump said Cruz staff members told Ben Carson supporters that Carson had dropped out of the race, which wasn’t true. Trump said Cruz should have to give up his Iowa victory. So does Trump speak the truth when he calls politicians liars?

Most people aren’t so gullible that they believe everything a politician says. We all know they lie.

The Washington Post, Huffington Post, and Politifact keep their eyeballs glued to everything our politicians say. So if they lie, they become cannon fodder for talking heads like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. In fairness, politicians cannot always be truthful since they don’t write their material. They have staff who write their speeches. I am guessing they don’t do fact checks before reading their speeches.

Author George Orwell, a brilliant writer, had a great comment on politicians.

He said “Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.”

Politicians and the lies they have told

So what other lies have other politicians told? Here’s a few:

“If you like the health care plan you have, you can keep it.”— President Barack Obama

“We found the weapons of mass destruction (in Iraq).”— President George W. Bush

“I can say that no one in the White House staff, no one in this administration, presently employed, was involved in this very bizarre incident.”— President Richard Nixon discussing the Watergate burglary.

“We are not about to send American boys nine or ten thousand miles away from home to do what Asian boys ought to be doing for themselves.”— President Lyndon Johnson on sending troops to Vietnam

“Florida led the nation in job creation.”— Jeb Bush said this in 2007

“After Bush got reelected in 2004, the first thing he said was, let’s go privatize Social Security. And you know what, their whole plan was, their plan was to give the Social Security trust fund to Wall Street. Imagine that.”— Hillary Clinton
