The much anticipated details regarding the family planned all-star concert honoring the late music icon Prince Rogers Nelson were released today. According to, Prince’s oldest sister, Sharon Nelson, released a statement saying: “The family is extremely excited to provide an opportunity for the world to participate in the tribute for our brother Prince.”

Originally planned to take place at the new U.S. Bank Stadium, the venue has changed to the Xcel Energy Center located in St. Paul, Minnesota. The concert is still set for October 13th. Tickets go on sale Monday, September 19th at 10:00 a.m.

CST. Ticket prices have yet to be announced but according the musician’s friend and legal advisor, L. Londell McMillan, prices will start at $19.99.

Honoring a legend

Artists paying tribute include: Stevie Wonder, Morris Day and the Time, Chaka Khan, Christina Aguilera, John Mayer, Tori Kelly, Anita Baker, Doug E. Fresh, Mint Condition, Bilal, 3rdEyeGirl, Judith Hill, Liv Warfield and New Power Generation. The X seats 15,000 to 18,000 for concerts.The event is expected to bring in more than $1 million for Prince’s estate. L Londell McMillan pointed out that it was not about the money. It’s about celebrating Prince’s life and music as well as bring people together.

The Purple One

Considered a musical genius by many, Prince came on the scene as a teenager, eventually achieving phenomenal success throughout his career.

Perhaps his most crowning achievement was for the soundtrack and movie "Purple Rain" for which he won an Academy Award, a Grammy award, and several other music awards as a result. Prince tragically passed away on April 21st of an accidental prescription overdose in his home. He was 57-years-old. Upon the revelation of his death, the world paid homage with an overwhelming outpouring of support.

Buildings and bridges lit up in purple. Even Chevrolet took out full page ads simply showing a red corvette, 1958-2016 and the words “Baby, that was much too fast.” Yes, it was.
