Actor and political activist George Clooney and his wife Amal are set to host a pair of high collar fundraiser dinners for Hillary Clinton, one in Los Angeles and the other in San Francisco. The price tag for attending the dinners is steep, up to $353,400 a plate. The occasion has allowed Clinton’s rival for the Democratic nomination for the presidency, Bernie Sanders, to have a little fun, according to the Hill Newspaper.

“In the movie Oceans 11, a gang of lovable thieves successfully heist $150 million from a vault in the basement of the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas,” said Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver in an email to Sanders supporters. “Fueled primarily from high-dollar donations, Hillary Clinton has raised more than that in this campaign, and is now enlisting the support of George Clooney (Danny Ocean) to pad that total at a dinner event that will cost people up to $353,400 to attend.”

The implications are clear to all who care to understand them.

Just as the gang from Oceans 11 robbed a group of casinos in the modern remake of the 1960 Rat Pack film, the star of the movie is plotting to steal the presidency from the toiling masses with big money donations. Sanders is no slouch when it comes to fundraising, but he boasts that he relies on small dollar donations and not mountains of cash from the rich and famous.

On the one hand, Sanders has a point, albeit one he might not want to explore too deeply.

Democratic Party

Liberal policies in California have squeezed out the middle class, leaving the wealthy of Hollywood and Silicon Valley on one end of the spectrum and the welfare class and working poor on the other. Hillary Clinton has cultivated the former for its near-infinite reserves of cash and star power. Sanders thinks he can appeal to the latter for their votes. Thus far the strategy has not worked. Clinton has amassed far more delegates than has Sanders, sometimes using methods that would not stand up to scrutiny.

But then better people than Sanders have gone up against the Clinton family and have turned up short.
