Vice President Joe Biden criticized Republican frontrunner Donald Trump on Tuesday. In a speech at a Hispanic heritage event at his Washington home, Mr. Biden called out Trump for “appealing to the baser side of human nature”.

“I don’t want anybody to be down about what’s going in the Republican Party” said the Vice President.

In his speech he did not attack the Republican party as a whole, but singled out Donald Trump for “denigrating an entire group of people” and “working on this notion of xenophobia in a way that hasn’t occurred in a long time”.

“Folks, the American people are with us.

I know it doesn’t feel that way, but I’m telling you the American people agree with us.”

Biden's Candidacy

Mr. Biden said earlier this year that by the end of the summer he’d announce his decision about running for President. In less than two weeks he would meet that deadline. Rumors about Biden'scandidacyhave been spreading throughout all summer, with some pollsters including him as candidate.

A late jump by Mr.

Biden could shake up the Democratic field, and it could end up being more hurtful for frontrunner Hillary Clinton, the establishment candidate, than for underdog candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders.

The latest Quinnipiac poll in Iowa, released last week, that had Mr. Sanders on the lead, also included the Vice President as a candidate. The same poll gave the lead to Mrs. Clinton when Mr. Biden was not considered.

Donald Trump

Regardless of all the polls and rumors, it still isn’t clear if Mr. Biden will enter the 2016 race. While he has been given some campaign style speeches, and his supporters keep chanting “Run, Joe, run!” in all of his public events, he claims to still be considering it.

In May of this year the Vice President lost his older son, Beau Biden, to brain cancer. While some reports claim that Beau had encouraged his father to run, Mr.

Biden has expressed that he is still struggling with the lost of his son. Last Thursday night Mr. Biden appeared on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and in a very emotional way explained that he did not feel emotionally ready to run. “I’d be lying if I said I knew I was there”.
