Celebrations are underway at Buckingham Palace, the Daily Mail reports. All the important guests are due to arrive at the annual pre-Christmas lunch hosted by Queen Elizabeth II.

A sizable list of VIPs will attend the event

Most if not all the royal family members, as well as their guests arrived in vehicles. Prince William drove his family in a Range Rover, with Harry on the front seat, and the Duchess Kate Middleton with son George and daughter Charlotte in the backseats.

Besides the expected guests, such as William, Kate and Prince Harry, there will also be other well-known names on the guest lists.

First amongst them were, of course, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, who looked very cheerful together. Other notable guests included Princess Anne (the only daughter of Queen Elisabeth II), her husband Sir Timothy Laurence, and her daughter Zara Tindall, who is an accomplished equestrian and mother-of-one. She wore the same silver dress she did at the 2015 family event.

Also at the event were Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie of York, the cousins of William and Harry. 2017 was a rough year for Princess Beatrice, as she split with her boyfriend Dave Clarke after a long relationship. In spite of this, she appeared quite cheerful and smiled at the crowd that gathered. Her sister, on the other hand, Princess Eugenie, looked and acted a bit more somber than usual.

One of the notable persons that was unable to attend the event was Prince Harry’s American girlfriend, 35-year-old actress Meghan Markle (who plays Rachel Zane in the TV drama “Suits” and who has also played a role in TV series “Fringe”). Harry was not very happy being so far away from her, but William and Kate seemed to cheer him up and provided good company.

The young Prince George was very enthusiastic about the event

Three-year-old Prince George of Cambridge, the first son of Kate and William, was very happy to be at the event. The Duke of Cambridge has said that his son was so excited about the Christmas celebrations, that he has already started tearing the wrapping around his presents.

The annual Christmas Lunch event is a great opportunity for the Royal Family to get together and allows the Queen to socialize with more distant relatives, who will not be present at the celebrations that will take place on the 25th of December at Sandringham Estate, located in Norfolk.
