If we're being honest, getting together with the family on Christmas isn't always the most relaxing experience. Whether there's some sort of simmering family tension or that one relative who is determined to talk politics throughout the day, everyone (of age) could use something to take the edge off. These drinks are the best to serve at your holiday party.

Candy Cane Cocoa

It wouldn't be Christmas without the minty flavor of a holiday candy cane, and making drinks out of the candy is the best way to avoid inevitably stabbing your cheek with the pointy end of the stick.

The taste is similar to a peppermint mocha coffee, except without the caffeine. Whisk some chocolate in for rich flavor and add a candy cane garnish to the cup to look nice and festive.

Christmas Punch

This isn't the best option if you're in a hurry (it can take over two hours to make), but as far as drinks go with the name "Christmas" right in it, this one is tops. All sorts of fruit can be thrown into this delectable meld, from cherries and oranges to pineapple chunks and lemon juice. Add some triple sec and light rum and stick it in the refrigerator so it can be mixed nice and well for the guests.

Cranberry Martini

Sometimes classic drinks work really well for Christmas parties and they're best if they're easy to make. The cranberry martini definitely falls under that category. All it takes is some vodka, orange liqueur, vermouth, cranberry juice, and ice thrown together and shaken (not stirred) to cool it down. Adding some cranberries will make the martini look even prettier, but your guests will hardly care after getting a sip.

Finally, eggnog is a Christmas staple for many reasons. There are always about a hundred different variations depending on the potency of the drinks one is trying to provide. One of the best suggestions circulating right now is the addition of some vanilla extract to make a more creamy blend of the holiday classic. Eggnog is basically only served once a year, so any variation served is worthwhile.
