Walt Disney World, in partnership with Intel, introduced something very unique for the holidays at Disney Springs. Each night between now and January 8 you can see the Starbright Holidays Christmas show.

Disney uses state-of-the-art drone technology

This unique presentation uses 300 drones that have LED lights capable of more than four billion color combinations. All of the drones, which form images in the sky of holiday icons like a Christmas tree and a dove, are controlled by a single computer. They’re known as Intel Shooting Star drones and are designed for customizable light shows, so the holiday presentation could be just the beginning of a new type of entertainment at Walt Disney World.

You can see a soft opening version of the show in the video below:

Christmas show breaks new entertainment territory

Josh Walden, senior vice-president and general manager of the New Technology Group at Intel, expressed his excitement at partnering with Walt Disney World to “bring a fresh and innovative approach to its world-renowned light shows.” He said, “Together, we worked to tackle a new frontier in entertainment, picturing the sky as our canvas and flying lights as ink.” Now you can see the result at 7 p.m. and again at 8:30 p.m. every night at Disney Springs through the first week in January.

Starbright Holidays takes place over the water at Disney Springs, with great viewing spots all along the lakefront on the West Side.

The show is free, as is parking and admittance to the dining, shopping and entertainment area that’s packed with plenty of other Christmas festivities. Visit Santa Claus, take a stroll down the Christmas Tree Trail, and get some shopping done at the wide range of stores at this Walt Disney World shopping destination.

Imagineers are excited about the collaboration with Intel that brought this Christmas show to life. Jon Snoddy, an executive with the Walt Disney Imagineering Research & Development Studio, said “We are thrilled to collaborate with them on this exciting entertainment experience.

By combining our technological capabilities, we will be able to light up the sky this holiday season."

One of many Christmas experiences

You’ll find plenty of traditional technology at the Walt Disney World theme parks brining seasonal entertainment, too, like the Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM projection and fireworks show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and a vast array of experiences like a parade and fireworks at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in the Magic Kingdom. However, if you’re looking for something unique, plan to be at Disney Springs to see the latest in drone technology and how it can be used to create an ultimate visual Christmas experience.
