The Epcot International Food and Wine Festival at Walt Disney World has expanded to two months for 2016, running through November 14. The event draws big crowds every year, including locals and United States and international visitors who plan their trips around this celebration of good food and drink. It lures in new people, too. Some know that it’s going on and want to check it out, while others have no idea that their vacations coincide with the festival dates.

If you’re new to the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, you’ll have the best experience if you know what to expect when you visit during the event.

Here are five things you’ll find at the theme park if you're at Walt Disney World during the two month span when gourmet food, wine, and other alcoholic beverages spring up in Future World and all around World Showcase to tempt your appetite:

Bigger crowds than usual at Epcot

Because so many people visit Walt Disney World just to visit the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, expect bigger crowds than usual. This is particularly true on the weekends, when massive hordes of locals join the vacationers. Offset this by visiting during the week if you can. If you must go on Saturday or Sunday, arrive at the park as early as possible. You’ll beat the long lines in the parking lot, at the security checkpoint, and at the front gate.

You’ll also be one of the first people into World Showcase when it opens, meaning that you’ll have shorter lines at the food kiosks.

Special Epcot International Food and Wine Festival merchandise

During the event, the Festival Center and other spots in the theme park carry special merchandise. If you’re a long-time Walt Disney World fan, you probably know Figment.

His purple persona graces much of the merchandise this year, and there are plenty of options with classics like Mickey and Donald as well. In addition to kitchenware and souvenirs, you can also shop for wine inside the Festival Center from among a wide variety of options.

A peek inside an old Epcot pavilion

If you’ve been visiting Walt Disney World for a long time, you might remember the old Wonders of Life pavilion. It gains new life during the festival, when it becomes the Festival Center. As mentioned previously, the center has a merchandise area and wine shop, but it also houses much more. Be sure you visit it to get a free sample of Ghirardelli chocolate while browsing at amazing chocolate sculptures. The center also houses many of the special demos and tasting events. There’s an information center inside if you’re interested in signing up for something and there’s still availability.

An expansion of the Epcot World Showcase countries

One of the great things about Walt Disney World is that you can travel to eleven countries all in one theme park.

During the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, that number expands when food kiosks spring up for other countries like Scotland, Poland, and Korea. Each features ethnic cuisine from the host country, often with a little twist from the chefs. For an exact listing of all the countries represented at the event, look online or grab a free passport when you arrive at the theme park.

Special Epcot Entertainment

If you love live concerts, check out the Eat to the Beat concerts offered every day in the America Gardens Theater across from the American pavilion. The series kicked off with Wang Chung on September 14 and runs every night in World Showcase, with three shows per night, for the duration of the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival.

The concerts are included with your admission ticket. You’ll find other special entertainment, too, like a fun twist on the usual Jammitors show.
