Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom is an annual event that pops up each fall, along with pumpkin flavored lattes in the Starbucks on the theme park’s Main Street USA. This special hard-ticket event at Walt Disney World features many special activities beyond what you get with a regular day admission. Many popular rides, like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain, and the Haunted Mansion, are open during the party, but it features certain activities that you can’t enjoy during the park’s regular hours. If you buy tickets for the party, there are five things in particular that you shouldn’t miss.

Special photo opportunities with Disney characters

Mickey Mouse and his friends, including some rare characters like Jack and Sally from ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas,’ come out to play in their costumes during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. You won’t see them in that special garb during the day in the Magic Kingdom, so have your phone ready or take full advantage of the convenience of PhotoPass to commemorate many special moments with Disney friends. You’ll also get up close and personal with some of the ‘Monsters Inc.’ characters at the dance party in Tomorrowland.

The Boo to You Halloween Parade

The Boo to You Parade is geared around Halloween, with the Headless Horseman leading the way.

It runs twice a night at the Magic Kingdom during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, with lots of happy haunts, including those from the Haunted Mansion and a load of the Disney villains you love to hate (or maybe even love). Goofy’s on hand with his candy float, too, and the kids might even get a treat.

Check the parade times and stake out a spot early, especially if you choose the early time since parents with young children often leave before the second run.

Special Disney Happy HalloWishes fireworks

Happy HalloWishes is the special fireworks show that runs in the Magic Kingdom every night of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, lighting up the sky and adding dazzling effects around Cinderella Castle.

It’s immediately preceded by the Celebrate the Magic projection show on the inconic castle, which you can see quite well from the prime fireworks viewing spots, giving you a two-for-one show experience.

Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular

The Disney villains come out to play in the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular, which takes place several times each evening in front of Cinderella Castle. This show only comes to the Magic Kingdom for the Halloween party, and it’s easy to fit into your evening since it typically runs four times (including a performance not long after the Happy HalloWishes fireworks). Grab a show guide when you arrive or look at the sign board near the stage for exact times.

Trick-or-Treating in the Magic Kingdom

Trick-or-treating at Walt Disney World is a little kids’ dream come true, and you can do it at stations all around the Magic Kingdom during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. Bring your own bag or get a free one at the park. If you’re an adult, you can join in the fun whether or not you have children. You can go through the candy stations as often as you like, resulting in a pretty big haul by the end of the night.
