Things to do on Captiva Island

The J. N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge is a wildlife sanctuary of 5,220 acres featuring trails that branch off in many directions. Many of these scenic trails are surrounded by salt myrtles, cabbage palms, sea grapes, and a variety of native trees. Aside from hiking or taking a scenic drive, a guided trip in a kayak could provide the most fun. Paddle through the mangroves along the Commodore Creek, and view pelicans, ospreys, sea squirts, sea horses, barnacles, and oysters that dwell in the estuary. If kayaking is not for you, take the narrated tram tour of the Darling National Wildlife Refuge instead.
